The Department of Recreation & Leisure Services is responsible for the delivery of recreation and leisure services on behalf of Municipal Council. Together with our community partners, we maintain a variety of recreational facilities such as municipal parks and sportsfields, arenas and community centres.

FACILITIES

Gemini Sportsplex

Gemini Sportsplex is a twin pad ice facility opened in 2000. This facility is home to Strathroy District Minor  Hockey Association, Strathroy Skating Club, Bluewater Hawks, the training facility for Future Pro Goalie Schools, RST Technology, and many others. We have been pleased to host such events as NHL Alumni games, World Curling Championship, Ontario Indoor Speedskating Championship, and the World U-17 Hockey Challenge.

The Gemini Sportsplex offers various opportunities for meetings, conferences, and special events. The Wescast Room offers a kitchenette, seating for 125 guests, a big-screen TV with VCR and DVD player, and separate washrooms.

 West Middlesex Memorial Centre

WMMC was opened in 1953, and is the home of the Strathroy Rockets Junior B Hockey Club. Presently, the facility is undergoing significant capital improvements. Plans are to convert the old auditorium space into a modern multi-purpose space to better serve the needs of the community.  The following files contain the drawings of the improvements to WMMC:

 Lions Pool

Built in 1950, through the generous support of the Strathroy Lions Club and community, the Lions Pool has been servicing the community for more than 50 years. The Lions Pool operates through July and August, during the hot summer days. The Department's fully qualified aquatic instructors teach Red Cross swimming lessons, and Lifesaving Society Bronze programs. Registrations for swimming lessons are accepted starting June 1st of each year. As well, you can enjoy a cool dip during our daily public swimming times.

Strathroy Aquatic Club is a seasonal swim team that promotes swimming skills and development while competing in the Tri-County Swim League. Registration with the swim team starts June 1st of each year.

 SPORTSFIELDS

The Department maintains a variety of sportsfields for community use, including the following:

Yorkview Community Park & Van Dyk Soccer Fields

A regional baseball and soccer complex, with a concession and washroom facility. In 2006, the soccer fields were dedicated in memory of Mr. Henk Van Dyk, a long-time soccer supporter and community leader.

 Cuddy Sports Complex

A regional soccer complex, featuring 2 regulation size soccer fields. In 2002, the soccer complex was named in honour of business entrepreneur and community leader Mr. Mac Cuddy and his family.

 Royals Field, Alexandra Park

The Royals Field is named after the hometown Strathroy Royals Baseball Club, who have used this ball diamond for over 100 years.

Community Centers

 Strathroy & Area Senior’s Centre

The Strathroy and Area Seniors’ Centre is a modern recreational facility with many amenities to attract active seniors to its vibrant programs and services. The Seniors’ Centre Council coordinates a number of programs for seniors and residents of the community of all ages, including Yoga and Tai Chi classes, line dancing, darts, billiards, exercise programs and much more!

Caradoc Community Centre

CCC was opened in 1990, and proudly supported by the Caradoc community. The Caradoc Community Centre is a wonderful facility for wedding receptions, dances, special events, and other community activities.
