Long-time Melbourne firefighter and District Fire Chief Murray Hathaway has retired.
Strathroy-Caradoc Council recognized him at its Nov. 19 meeting, as Mayor Joanne Vanderheyden presented him with a certificate and a gift in honour of his 49 years of service to the community. He retired as of Nov. 19.

Fourteen new volunteer firefighters will be hired by Strathroy-Caradoc as of Jan. 1, 2013.
The move comes on the heels of a successful recruitment campaign carried out by the municipal fire service in September. The 14 new firefighters will bring the service up to full strength at all three stations in Strathroy-Caradoc.

A new outdoor swimming pool facility will be built next to West Middlesex Memorial Centre at the corner of Metcalfe St. W. and Park St. in Strathroy.

Strathroy-Caradoc residents are doing a good job in limiting the amount of waste they produce that goes into landfills.
Local council learned recently that the waste diversion rate across the municipality is either almost at the target set by the province of Ontario or well above it. While the province’s target for the percentage of waste that is either reused or recycled is 60%, the waste diversion rate in Strathroy is currently 56%, while in Caradoc, it is 74%. New garbage and recycling containers will be delivered to each household starting the week of November 19, 2012, as part of the new automated collection service offered by Bluewater Recycling Association.
These new “wheelie” bins will be compatible with the automated collection trucks operated by BRA. Residents may find out more about this cleaner, more efficient, and safer collection system by attending an open house offered by the municipality:
