The installation of residential swimming pools and hot tubs is regulated through the bylaws of the municipality. A permit is required to build a pool and surrounding fencing. This can be obtained through the municipal Building, Drainage, and Waste Management department.
Locating a residential swimming pool on a residential property is regulated through Section 4.22 of the Strathroy-Caradoc Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, no outside swimming pool or hot tub, or associated walls, deck, or exterior walkways adjacent to it shall be erected anywhere except in:
No water circulating or treatment equipment, such as pumps or filters, shall be located closer than 3m to any side lot line or 1m to any rear lot line. Where a rear lot line abuts a side lot line the required setback shall be 3m. This regulation does not apply where the circulating or treatment equipment is entirely located within an enclosed structure.
When installing a residential swimming pool, property owners must adhere to regulations having to do with fencing to surround the pool. Those regulations are found in Bylaw 24-09, A Bylaw To Regulate Enclosures Around Privately Owned Pools.
