Dickens Dollars are sold out online, at City Hall and Mainstreet Credit Union.
Dickens Dollars Information
|
Dickens Dollars are BIA currency that can be spent almost anywhere downtown, within our BIA boundaries, as part of a seasonal promotion. They work similarly to a gift card, but have no cash value, and offer shoppers a 20% discount as an incentive to shop locally and support our brick & mortar merchant members.
Dickens Dollars will be a seasonal promotion intended to encourage local spending and make great gifts for the "tough to shop for" people on our Christmas lists! Dickens Dollars make great corporate or personal gifts, while supporting our family-owned, local & independent small businesses that continue to operate downtown.
Program Details:
- Dickens Dollars will be printed in $25 denominations, offering shoppers a 20% discount (i.e., each $25 voucher will cost just $20) and will expire on June 30th 2021
- Dickens Dollars will be available for purchase starting November 12th and will be available until they're sold out, with the maximum amount for purchase per person being $1000 worth of Dickens Dollars
- 50% of the tickets printed are sold online, through a portal on the municipality's website, with 25% available to be sold in-person at town hall and the other 25% to be sold at Mainstreet Credit Union.
- Dickens Dollars hold no cash value, so there is no change given on a purchase (it is up to each business to decide if they would like to issue their own credits to cover any differences). Participating businesses can place other restrictions if they so wish (i.e., not used to cover dispensing fees and/or prescription medication, etc.)
- Dickens Dollars cannot be redeemed for the purchase of gift cards for businesses that operate outside of the Strathroy BIA boundary.
- Participating merchants will have window signage indicating that they are accepting Dickens Dollars at their place of business. If they do not have signage, you may have to ask in-store if they are participating.

About the Strathroy BIA
The Strathroy Business Improvement Area ( BIA) allows local businesspeople and property owners to join together. With the support of the municipality, it organizes, finances, and carries out physical improvements and promotes economic development in its district.
Section 204 of the Municipal Act, 2001 provides for the creation and operation of BIAs. Through the establishment of the BIA, the municipality collects a special charge on all industrial and commercial properties in a BIA area based on a BIA budget approved by Council. The funds are then transferred to the BIA organization to carry out its work.
The current BIA Board of Governance has developed the following mission and vision statements:
Mission
Create a revitalized community core through the following priorities:
- Advocate on behalf of our membership;

- Communicate with the community and our members;

- Lobby for the safety and security of our patrons and members;
- Plan for beautification and the creation of a unique experience.
Vision
