The Caradoc Street Reconstruction Project is expected to kick off on May 4 with an accelerated timeline.
While the original project plan included a phased approach with the intersection of Caradoc and Front streets remaining open, a new fast-tracked timeline will be implemented that will see the majority of the project area closed immediately so work can begin.
“Starting the project now and increasing the footprint of the site will enable crews to get the work done on a fast-tracked timeline, which will allow us to reopen the intersection of Caradoc and Front Streets quickly,” said Mayor Joanne Vanderheyden. “We’re working closely with the BIA to minimize the impact of construction and to support local businesses as emergency COVID-19 measures are eventually reduced.”
Access to Front Street will remain available via Thomas, Frank, and Colborne streets for the duration of the project.
Strathroy-Caradoc staff and construction partners thoroughly reviewed the Caradoc Street Reconstruction Project to ensure it meets the Province’s criteria to proceed under the Essential Service Orders issued on April 3. Additional health and safety measures and COVID-19 protocols will be implemented for worker health and safety.
The project will improve roadworks, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and watermain along Caradoc Street from approximately Garden Lane to English Street/Maitland Terrace. About 30 metres of Centre Street west of Caradoc Street will see paving and storm sewer improvements. Residents can also expect traffic signal improvements at Metcalfe Street and Front Street intersections, and new beautification features in select boulevard areas between Metcalfe Street and Front Street.
