A proposal to build an outdoor swimming pool facility in Strathroy has been accepted by Strathroy-Caradoc Council.
Council unanimously approved accepting the proposal of Acapulco Pools of Kitchener to do the work at its meeting on January 21. The project will go ahead this year, with construction starting this spring and a tentative completion date planned for the end of October.
The pool facility will be located beside the West Middlesex Memorial Centre at the corner of Metcalfe St. W. and Park St. It will include a six-lane, 25-metre competition pool along with a leisure pool complex featuring a beach-style entrance, and including a variety of water features and a lazy river.
Acapulco was one of three firms which submitted proposals for the project, at a base price of $2,906,774.40. After a detailed technical and financial review of the proposals by municipal staff, engineering consultants, and council, the Acapulco bid was found to be the strongest proposal of the three.
The quoted price is for the pool contract only. There is a total of $4 million available through a provincial grant that had been approved earlier for an aquatic centre. Council will be receiving a report from staff on other costs connected to the pool project that could come from this grant, including decommissioning of the current pool site on Caradoc St., infrastructure and site works required at the new site (water and sewer access, landscaping, signage, equipment and sidewalks), and additional items associated with the aquatic facility complex outside of the scope of the base contract.
