Mayor Grantham Presents Medal of Distinction Awards to 2023 Recipients
The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc was honoured to formally present Rob Talach and Ian Johnston with Medals of Distinction during the January 15, 2024 Council meeting.
Rob Talach was the recipient of the Medal of Distinction in Heroism – On Dec. 6, 2022, on his way home with his son, Oskar, from Cadets, Rob saw an accident happen with a tractor-trailer and immediately stopped. From there, he started first aid with the driver who was pinned inside. With a risk of fire engulfing the wreck, Rob and his son Oskar remained with the trapped driver applying pressure to his wounds until emergency services arrived. Rob received the Medal of Distinction in Heroism, and his son Oskar received a Certificate of Recognition from the Mayor.
Ian Johnston was the recipient of the Medal of Distinction in Volunteerism – Ian is engaged with the 1st Strathroy Scouts where he is an integral part of the team that provides the youth of Strathroy-Caradoc with experiences of a lifetime. Ian is also exceptionally passionate about the environment and teaches the next generation about recycling as much as he can.
The Municipality’s Medal of Distinction is intended to be the highest municipal honour available to residents and supporters of the Strathroy-Caradoc community. Mayor Colin Grantham made the presentation to recipients and personally thanked them for their support of the community.
Strathroy-Caradoc Council Approves Recommendation to Recruit and Hire 2024 Seasonal Staff
Strathroy-Caradoc Council has approved a recommendation which will allow Municipal staff to begin the recruitment and hiring of 2024 seasonal positions. As highlighted in report no. HR-2024-01 (PDF[212kb]), the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc historically begins recruiting seasonal positions in early January of each year. This early recruitment significantly enhances the Municipality's ability to attract and secure the best candidates for seasonal roles. As Strathroy-Caradoc Council is currently in the process of developing their 2024 budget, this approval will allow the Municipality's Human Resources Department to proactively hire seasonal positions prior to final budget approval. As outlined in the staff recommendation, the list of 2024 seasonal positions account for a staffing level which will maintain the 2023 level of service that the Municipality provided to the community.
Council Directs the Mayor and Clerk to Execute Conservation Authority Agreement
During the January 15, 2024 Council meeting, Council directed the Mayor and Clerk to execute a Conservation Authority Agreement with the Lower Thames River Conservation Authority (LTRCA). In response to several amendments made to the Conservation Authorities Act, conservation authorities are now required to enter into an agreement with their member municipalities in order to levy members for services that are not deemed mandatory by the Province.
Following consultation with LTRCA, the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc will now enter into an agreement which outlines all of the mandatory and non-mandatory services that are included as part of the Conservation Authority's municipal tax levy. Additionally, Strathroy-Caradoc Council had previously directed the Mayor and Clerk, at the December 18, 2023 Council meeting, to execute a Conservation Authority Agreement with the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority.
