2024 Medals of Distinction
At the first Regular Council meeting of the year, Mayor Colin Grantham had the privilege to officially present the 2024 recipients, Rick Wilkens and Chris Soares, with their Medals of Distinction. Both recipients received the Medal of Distinction in Volunteerism for their community support with their respective groups and organizations.
Prior to Christmas, Mayor Grantham personally presented Rick Wilkens with his Medal of Distinction at his home. Rick primarily volunteers his time and property with Mount Brydges Scouting.
Chris Soares was presented with his Medal of Distinction on January 20, in which Mayor Grantham thanked him for his abundant volunteerism in the community with many various youth and charity programs.
The Municipality’s Medal of Distinction is intended to be the highest municipal honour available to residents and supporters of the Strathroy-Caradoc community, and we thank the recipients for their dedication and support.

Canada Day Committee
The Strathroy Canada Day Committee provided an update regarding this year’s Canada Day festivities in Strathroy. Back in August 2024, Council had received a letter from the Committee requesting funding in order to commit to a licenced fireworks distributor. Through the Community Events Program, Council agreed to provide the Strathroy Canada Day Committee with $9,000 to kick start the process.
The committee extended its gratitude to Council for their efforts to help fund this event which will take place on June 29, 2025 at the fields next to Strathroy District Collegiate Institute.
To keep the community informed, the committee will be creating a Facebook group where residents can follow for updates. Businesses interested in sponsoring the event are encouraged to email: strathroycanadaday@gmail.com.
Public Meeting and Updates to Proposed Apartment Buildings in Strathroy
A second Public Meeting was held regarding proposed development at 24605 Saxton Road in Strathroy, as the application had been revised to include the following changes:
Members of Council and the public provided feedback that will be considered as part of a future report to return to Council at a later date for further modifications or approval. Please see the Report for Council for more on the project’s developments.
2025 Budget Deliberations
Strathroy-Caradoc Council received an update regarding 2025 Budget Deliberations following recommendations and decisions made at the January 13, 2025 Finance Committee meeting. The proposed 2025 Municipal Budget would require a $24,427,860 taxation levy, which is a 5.6% Tax Levy increase over 2024 equating to a 4.5% Tax Rate increase over 2024.
A full budget package will be brought forward to Council for consideration and approval via by-law at the next regular Council meeting on February 3, 2025.
With this update, a recommendation was approved to cancel the scheduled Finance Committee meetings on January 27, February 10, and February 24.
