Council Defeats Notice of Motion Regarding Potential Changes to Flag Raising Policy
At the November 4, 2024, Council meeting, Council defeated a Notice of Motion regarding potential changes to the Municipality's Flag Raising Policy. The proposed motion sought to modify the policy to limit flag raisings to only Federal, Provincial, and Municipal flags. Following a Council vote, the motion was defeated. Moving forward, the Municipality will continue to participate in a variety of flag raisings in accordance with its current Flag Raising Policy.
Council Approves the Lease of a Bush Truck
At the November 4, 2024, Strathroy-Caradoc Council meeting, Council approved a staff recommendation to lease a new bush truck to address challenges faced by the fire department. An increase in field and brush fires has highlighted the limitations of current trucks, especially in accessing difficult terrains. The new Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 bush truck, fitted with essential firefighting equipment, will allow firefighters to access remote areas more effectively. It includes a 300-gallon water tank, a high-pressure hose reel, and self-extrication capabilities. This new truck will be located at the Mt. Brydges Fire Station due to the station's central location within the Municipality.
The existing Service 25 vehicle, a 2020 Ford F250, will be relocated to the Strathroy Fire Station and will replace the current FPO truck. The Service 25 vehicle can easily accommodate the pre-existing FPO truck's required gear, with the added ability to tow the rehab/tech rescue trailer. The lease, at $2,338.73 per month, will be covered under the 2025 Fire Service operating budget. The old FPO vehicle’s value will contribute to the Fire Fleet Reserve.
Council Decision on 2024 Water, Wastewater and Stormwater Masterplan Deferred
At the November 4, 2024, Council meeting, Council received Report EPW-2024-74 (PDF[460kB]), which provided an overview of the Municipality's 2024 Water, Wastewater and Stormwater Master Plan. As described in the report, this comprehensive master plan provides servicing strategies to meet Strathroy-Caradoc’s growth needs, as well as ensure continuity in existing serviced settlement areas.
Following their review of the report, Council passed a motion to defer a decision on the endorsement of the 2024 Water, Wastewater and Stormwater Master Plan until a future meeting. Prior to making a decision on an endorsement of the master plan, Council is awaiting an upcoming staff report regarding the Mount Brydges Wastewater Treatment Facility.
