Two new vehicles will be purchased for the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department.
Strathroy-Caradoc Council on June 3 approved buying a new combination pumper-rescue vehicle for the Strathroy station and a new tanker truck for the Melbourne station.
The pumper-rescue vehicle will replace a 1987 pumper and a 1992 heavy rescue vehicle already in service at the Strathroy station. It will take its place alongside a 2001 pumper-tanker and a 1988 aerial vehicle already in service.
Cost of the pumper-rescue truck will be $319,960, along with an additional $25,000 to be spent for the purchase of fire hose and additional equipment to outfit the vehicle. The truck will be bought from Dependable Truck & Tank of Brampton. The municipality had invited bids on the vehicle, and received eight bids that it considered. This was the lowest of the eight.
The vehicle is expected to be available for use in the near future. It has already been built by the company.
The new Melbourne tanker is also being bought from Dependable Truck & Tank, which submitted the lowest of six bids considered by the municipality. The purchase price is $215,075. The Melbourne station serves not only the southwest part of Strathroy-Caradoc, but also provides coverage for part of Southwest Middlesex as well. Under the terms of a fire service agreement between the two municipalities, Southwest Middlesex would pick up nearly 43 percent of the cost of the new tanker, leaving Strathroy-Caradoc’s share at nearly $126,000.
The new vehicle will replace a 1987 tanker currently in service. It has also already been built, with a tentative delivery date of 30-45 days from the date of purchase.
Also based at the Melbourne station is a 2006 pumper vehicle.
The price of both new vehicles came in well under what the municipality had budgeted for them ($450,000 for the pumper-rescue vehicle and $250,000 for the tanker).
