Fourteen new volunteer firefighters will be hired by Strathroy-Caradoc as of Jan. 1, 2013.
The move comes on the heels of a successful recruitment campaign carried out by the municipal fire service in September. The 14 new firefighters will bring the service up to full strength at all three stations in Strathroy-Caradoc.
As of Jan. 1, the Strathroy station will include 27 volunteer firefighters, while the Mt. Brydges and Melbourne stations will boast 24 volunteers each, for a total of 75 across the entire municipality. Currently, the service includes 61 volunteers, with retirements and resignations due to changes in employers and residency status accounting for the reduction from the full staffing level of 75.
New recruits will undergo six months of probationary training followed by another six months of advanced training to bring them to a level of 1st Class Firefighters.
September’s recruitment campaign resulted in 30 applications for the positions across the municipality.
