The installation of a new sign for the recreation complex located at the corner of Park Street and Metcalfe Street in Strathroy this week marks a pivotal stage in the Strathroy outdoor pool project.
The pool project is nearing completion. The competition pool and splash play areas were recently filled with water for commissioning, the water slide has been completed, and the bath house building is receiving its finishing touches. Next week will see the installation of sod and decorative fencing, and the completion of the viewing area.
Contractor Acapulco Pools estimates the facility will be turned over to Strathroy-Caradoc in the first week of December, well in advance of the March 31, 2014, deadline for substantial completion set by the province. The project is also tracking within the allotted budget of $4 million provided by the province, which also incorporated the decommissioning of the former Lions Pool, and the addition of a new playground structure and pavilion at the outdoor pool site.
Finishing touches for the project such as the painting of the pool, final lift of asphalt on the laneway and parking area, and landscaping of the site, will take place in the spring of 2014 before opening the facility to the public for the summer season.
A tour of the new facility will be offered to the members of the Strathroy and District Chamber of Commerce at the 'Biz After Biz' event to be hosted by the municipality on November 21 next door at West Middlesex Memorial Centre. A public grand opening ceremony and celebration for the community will be organized for next June to coincide with the start of the 2014 pool season.
