On Sunday, December 24, 2023, at approximately 12 p.m., the Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service responded to a theft call from the Walmart located at 150 Carroll St E.
Prior to Police arrival the suspects fled from the store with a shopping cart full of various merchandise worth over $1,200.00.
The complainant provided a suspect and suspect vehicle description. Police were able locate the involved parties at Adelaide Road near Century Drive. Police conducted a vehicle stop and subsequently placed the male driver and male passenger under arrest for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Theft Under $5000. Officer conducted a search incident to arrest and also located illegal drugs suspected to be Methamphetamine and Cocaine. As a result, both parties were further charged with Possession of Schedule 1 Substance.
During the investigation, Police also suspected the driver to be impaired by drugs. A Drug Recognition Expert was contacted. As a result of the investigation, the driver a 31-year-old male, London Ontario resident was further charged with Operation While Impaired by drug. The driver’s vehicle has been impounded for 7 days and his driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days.
Both accused will attend court in London on February 9, 2024 to answer to these charges.
