On Sunday, April 10, at about 9:45pm, Strathroy-Caradoc Police were called to Hickory Drive for a report of a male in the middle of the road swinging what appeared to be a golf club at passing vehicles.
At the same time as police were on route to this call, police were advised that a male had been assaulted at a residence on Hickory Drive. Both incidents were related.
Police learned the two males known to each other had been drinking alcohol together for the better part of the day when one of the males suddenly became violent and began to assault the other male. The victim was able to get away and get to his vehicle. The accused swung a piece of lumber breaking the victim’s car window in an attempt to further assault the victim.
When police arrived at the residence they attempted to arrest the male for assault. The male resisted arrest and a Taser was deployed. The male was able to flee from police into his residence. The male who is known to police refused to come outside. Police, fearing that the male may have access to weapons, contacted the OPP for assistance in containing the residence. A search warrant was obtained by police, at about 5:30am, with the assistance of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit the residence was entered and the male suspect was arrested.
The 48-year-old male suspect was charged with Assault, Assault with a weapon, Mischief to property, and Resist Arrest. He appeared in court on Monday, April 11, for a bail hearing.
The victim was not seriously injured and refused medical attention.
