Strathroy-Caradoc Council made history on Friday, April 3, as its first ever electronic meeting was held with all members participating from various locations.
The historic meeting was live-streamed to the public via the municipality’s special meetings webpage located at www.strathroy-caradoc.ca/meetings. Council meetings will continue to be held online and livestreamed on regularly scheduled meeting dates. Archived video will also be available after each meeting.
“It’s very important that we maintain physical distance in our fight against COVID-19, and the ability to meet virtually allows us to do so,” said Mayor Joanne Vanderheyden. “Council and staff are adapting to this ever-changing situation and continue to push forward to deliver the services our community needs during this time.”
The virtual meeting was made possible by new provincial legislation permitting municipalities to conduct council, committee, and local board meetings electronically when faced with local and province-wide emergencies. The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc and the Province of Ontario declared a state of emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic on March 17.
The next Strathroy-Caradoc Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m. The livestream link will be available when the meeting is underway.
