The Strathroy Caradoc Police has issued another important public warning regarding the deadly drug Fentanyl. This warning was originally sent out in February of this year but, sadly, there have been more recent suspected Fentanyl-related overdoses and deaths in our community and surrounding jurisdictions. As a result SCPS wanted to again share information to the public about this drug to keep the community safe.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid drug that is approximately 100 times more potent than other opioids. Fentanyl is often added to other illicit street drugs such as fake pills and white powder. Fentanyl and other opioids cause overdose by slowing breathing and eventually causing death.
Fentanyl is most commonly seen in a powdered rock form that can be different colours such as blue, purple, green, yellow or other pale colours. It can also be in the form of counterfeit pills.
If you come in contact with a substance suspected to be Fentanyl do not have bare skin contact with the drug. Use gloves and masks to ensure you are safe.
Know the signs of an overdose or excessive opioid use. Someone may be overdosing if they:
If you witness an overdose, call 911 right away. If you have Naloxone (Narcan), administer it immediately.
