The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc is pleased to announce that Bill Andrew has assumed the position of District Fire Chief for the Melbourne Fire Station following the November 19, 2012, retirement of former District Fire Chief Murray Hathaway.
Steve Merklinger has been promoted as Deputy District Chief of the Melbourne Station as well.
District Chief Bill Andrew brings a strong set of skills including a wealth of experience in firefighting, administration and leadership experience to the position. Chief Andrew joined the Caradoc Township Fire Department as a firefighter in 1983, advancing to Captain in 1990. Following the amalgamation of Caradoc Township and Strathroy, he was appointed as Deputy District Fire Chief of the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department, Melbourne Station, in 2002.
Deputy District Chief Steve Merklinger joined the Caradoc Township Fire Department, Melbourne Station, in 1996 and was promoted to the rank of Captain of the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department, Melbourne Station, in 2003. Deputy District Chief Merklinger has an extensive background in firefighting and training, along with health and safety administrative knowledge that will complement the management team of the Melbourne Station.
Both positions became effective November 19, 2012.
