Roads

The Engineering and Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance of all roads, sidewalks, and storm sewers under the jurisdiction of the municipality. The road network consists of about 323 km of roadways comprising of collector, arterial, and local roads. Maintenance includes all matters related to transportation services including municipal road upkeep, construction, and winter control.

The department is also responsible for the maintenance and removal of trees on municipal right-of-ways, street lighting, fleet purchasing, and maintenance for all municipal departments (excluding Police), and the maintenance and operation of the Strathroy-Caradoc Gravel Pit.

Road Construction and Closures

Strathroy-Caradoc is responsible for building, maintaining and repairing roads, sidewalks and other infrastructure on local roads. The County of Middlesex does the same on county roads, and the Province looks after provincial highways. In all cases, work is done according to the Minimum Maintenance Standards set out by the Province.

Strathroy-Caradoc, the County of Middlesex, the Province of Ontario, and many other municipalities use Municipal 511 to show road closures, detours, winter weather events, and future construction projects.
