Sherri Kroll, Director of Middlesex Community Living Presents New Initiative

May is Community Living month, and this past Monday Council heard about the great initiatives going on with our local Middlesex Community Living organization. Sherri Kroll, Directory of MCL shared the services and support that this organization provides to our surrounding communities.

She also announced a relaunch of an initiative that started a few years back. This initiative is called “A Welcoming Community Where Everyone Belongs”. Businesses can be recognized and identified  with a peel off sticker, called a ‘decal of distinction”. This signifies that ‘Everyone is welcome to come through these doors”.

The overarching goal is to create great inclusion for all.

Let’s get Strathroy-Caradoc on the map and recognized as a community where everyone belongs.

Community Improvement Plan Applications Continue To Come In

There were a number of CIP Applications presented to Council. The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc undertook the preparation of the Community Improvement Plan (CIP) in late 2019 and early 2020, intending to build on the success of the previous CIP “About Face”. Through this new CIP, Strathroy-Caradoc intends to renew their commitment to community improvement and encourage economic investment through the expansion of improvement strategies and financial incentives. This Community Improvement Plan is the culmination of the efforts of municipal staff, council, business community, and general public in Strathroy-Caradoc.

2025 Sidewalk Program Recommendations Presented and Approved For Tender By Council

Council received a report for the 2025 Sidewalk Program Recommendations. The 2025 sidewalk program is part of a multi-year strategy to build on walkable and connected communities. The proposed sidewalk locations take public input into account and have been selected to:

  • Enhance walkable safety in communities

  • Convert existing sidewalks to meet AODA standards

  • Fill present gaps in the sidewalk network

  • Provide adequate room for winter maintenance equipment

The implementation of new sidewalks is part of a complete street approach that aims to reduce car dependency and make neighbourhood streets welcoming, equitable, safe and accessible for community members of all ages, abilities and means. Areas of focus in 2025 will be new sidewalks along Thorn Drive and English Street in Strathroy as well as sidewalk replacements in Mount Brydges.
