St. Clair Region Conservation Authority Issues Level 1 Low Water Advisory
The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) has declared a Level 1 Low Water Condition following a review of local precipitation and stream flow data. This level is the first of three under Ontario’s Low Water Response Program and serves as an early indicator of dry conditions across the watershed.
Recent data show that rainfall between July and September was below the historical average, resulting in lower-than-normal stream flows throughout the region.
The SCRCA encourages all watershed residents to voluntarily reduce water use by about 10%, through simple steps such as limiting lawn watering, vehicle washing, and pressure washing. These small actions help maintain healthy water levels and support the long-term sustainability of local waterways.
There is no expectation of mandatory water restrictions for residents connected to the Municipal water supply at this time.

What Is A “Watershed Resident”?
A watershed resident is anyone who lives within the geographic area of a watershed - the land area where all the rain, snowmelt, and surface water drains into a common body of water, such as a creek, stream, river, or wetland.
In this context:
- Watershed residents are people whose homes, properties, or activities fall within the SCRCA watershed.
- They may rely on private wells or other water sources that draw directly from local streams, lakes, or groundwater.
- Municipal water users (like residents connected to the town’s water system) are generally not affected, because their water comes from Lake Ontario rather than directly from the local watershed.
