Strathroy Sweeping Program

Public Works operates two street sweeping machines in Strathroy three days a week. In 2025, street sweeping will begin in Zone 1. The starting zone rotates counter-clockwise each year:

  • 2025: Zone 1 starts first
  • 2026: Zone 2 starts first
  • 2027: Zone 3 starts first
  • 2028: Zone 4 starts first

*See Street Sweeping Map to find what zone your street is.

This rotation ensures fair and balanced sweeping across all zones over time.

Smaller Communities Sweeping Schedule

One day a week, the Public Works team sweeps the communities listed below on a rotating schedule:

  • Week 1: Mount Brydges Zone 1
  • Week 2: Mount Brydges Zone 2
  • Week 3: Campbellvale
  • Week 4: Melbourne
  • Week 5: Delaware West

*For Mount Brydges, see Street Sweeping Map to find what zone your street is.

This cycle repeats throughout the sweeping season.

When does Street Sweeping begin?

Street sweeping typically starts in early spring, usually April, depending on weather conditions. The exact start date varies by each year, as sweeping begins once temperatures are consistently above freezing and snow/ice accumulation has cleared.

Fall Leaf Cleanup

In the fall, sweeping operations run five days a week to remove leaves that collect along curbs and gutters, preventing blockages in catch basins and ensuring proper drainage

How long does it take?

Each full round of sweeping takes approximately two (2) months to complete. After the first pass, the process starts over to ensure streets remain clean.

Who is responsible for sweeping County Roads?

Middlesex County is responsible for the first pass of street sweeping on County-owned roads. Strathroy-Caradoc does not determine the order in which Middlesex County completes this work.

After the County’s initial pass, Strathroy-Caradoc Public Works team conducts additional sweeping on County roads to maintain cleanliness and roadway safety.

Why Street Sweeping Matters

Street sweeping is an essential part of maintaining clean and safe roadways in Strathroy-Caradoc. Regular sweeping helps:

  • Improve Road Safety – Removes dirt, debris, and loose gravel that can create hazardous driving conditions
  • Protect the Environment – Prevents pollutants, leaves, and litter from entering storm drains and waterways, helping keep our rivers and streams clean
  • Enhance Community Appearance – Keeps streets looking well-maintained and welcoming for residents and visitors
  • Prevent Drainage Issues – Clears leaves and debris from gutters and catch basins, reducing the risk of localized flooding

Public Works is committed to keeping our roads clean and safe for everyone.
