Council Meeting Highlights: September 8, 2026

Service Award Presentation (Watch Here)
Council presented Chief Stephen Beasley with an award recognizing 30 years of loyal and exemplary service to public safety in Canada, presented on behalf of the Governor General of Canada.
Downtown Memorial Crosswalk Request (Watch Here)
Council approved moving ahead with the downtown memorial crosswalk, using the more durable paint which was quoted at approximately $6,500 and with a local contractor completing the work. The crosswalk is intended for completion before Remembrance Day this year.
There was also discussion on the possibility of exploring similar memorial crosswalks in other communities.
Shared Service Agreement Request with the Middlesex Centre Fire Department (Watch Here)
Council approved a motion to a shared service agreement with the Municipality of Middlesex Centre relating to fire services. The agreement will create a framework for a safe, effective, and efficient sharing of specialized personnel and equipment upon request by either department.
Under the agreement, the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department will provide its aerial apparatus, including the required personnel, upon request from the Middlesex Centre Fire Department, subject to the availability of the apparatus and personnel at the time of the request.
Middlesex Centre Fire Department will provide its Water Rescue Team, including qualified personnel and associated equipment, upon request from the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department, subject to the availability of personnel and equipment at the time of the request.
Both will determine the appropriate level of response, staffing, and equipment to be deployed.

Staff reported that the front portion of the building is being prepared for the customer service centre and the customer service staff will begin training soon. Additional rooms and areas are expected to follow in the coming weeks, with more details about the process to come.
