Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for our area. Conditions are favourable for dangerous thunderstorms this afternoon into this evening.
Potential hazards include:
- Damaging wind gusts over 110 km/h
- Large hail, potentially quarter to ping-pong ball size
- Torrential rainfall, with up to 50 mm possible locally
- Risk of a tornado
Significant damage to trees, buildings and property is possible. Utility outages and dangerous conditions may occur.
Be prepared to take shelter. If threatening weather approaches, go indoors to a basement or interior room away from windows. If you are outside, protect yourself from hail and flying debris.
When thunder roars, go indoors.
