County-Wide Burn Ban in Effect Beginning July 15

Effective Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc, together with all Middlesex County municipalities, will implement and enforce a County-Wide Burn Ban.

During the burn ban, all open-air burning is prohibited, except for small recreational fires that comply with the Municipality's Open Air Burning By-law.

Recreational Fire Requirements

Residents choosing to have a recreational fire must ensure they meet all by-law requirements, including:

  • Recreational fires are permitted between 4:00 p.m. and midnight only.
  • Burn only commercially produced charcoal, briquettes, or clean, dry, seasoned wood.
  • Fires must be contained within a non-combustible container or fire pit no larger than 60 cm x 60 cm (2 ft x 2 ft).
  • Fires must be managed to prevent sparks, embers, or ash from escaping.
  • Wood must fit completely within the fire pit or container at all times.
  • Fires must be located at least 3 metres (10 feet) from combustible structures or materials.
  • An appropriate extinguishing method must be readily available.
  • Fires must be attended, controlled, and supervised at all times, and fully extinguished before leaving the site.
  • Recreational fires are not permitted when:
    • Wind speeds exceed 15 km/h
    • It is raining or foggy
    • A Poor Air Quality Advisory has been issued
  • Property owners are responsible for ensuring smoke, sparks, and other by-products do not negatively affect neighbouring properties, people, pets, or the environment.

The Municipality appreciates residents' cooperation in helping reduce the risk of fire during dry conditions.
